Overland Park operates one of Kansas's more restrictive STR frameworks. STRs in single-family residential zones (R-1, R-2, R-3) require a Special Use Permit (SUP) processed through the Planning Commission with a public hearing. Multi-family zones (R-4, R-5, R-6) and mixed-use / commercial zones permit STRs with registration only. The 9% transient guest tax is among the highest in KS — reflecting Overland Park's positioning as a high-end suburban market.
